I'm glad you finally put something up about him, too. If his friends are all so great, then why didn't their community hold together? I wonder how many of them even know this guy or are still in contact with him. I know that if I suddenly disappeared, he wouldn't drop my name, which is exactly why I don't give two shits about him.

I particularly enjoyed the NES and other oldcshool conversations, and even some of my "RPG Wars", but eventually it became all 11-14 year olds chit-chatting about AIM and making posts only about each other and stuff that had no relevance to games (or anything) and here I was approaching my 20's...

Let me tell you a little story. Many years ago I went to a family reunion and I found myself in one of those situations where someone has a little girl in about that 11-14 age group (don't remember what her exact age was at the time, but it was somewhere in there) who is "just sooo smart" and "a real genius for her age", and blah blah blah. So, when I finally get to talk to this little prodigy, somehow the subject of videogames comes up. All I had at the time was my old Atari systems, an NES and a Super NES (and maybe a Gameboy, I'm not really sure.) Anyway, she asked me what game systems I have, so I told her. There's a long pause, she rears her head back, and starts shaking it wildly back and forth in a "NO" gesture and with the most haughty "holier-than-thou" voice one can imagine, she starts saying, "I don't LIKE Nintendo! I like Sega! Sega is SO much better than Nintendo."

Oh, okay, I'm thinking. So let's hear what thoughtful insight this little genius has as to why Sega is so much better than Nintendo, and I ask her, "Ok, well, what Nintendo games have you played?"

Again she shakes her head wildly and repeats with, "I don't LIKE Nintendo. I only play Sega. Sega is the best."

Me, "Okay, but what games have you played for Nintendo? What was it about the Sega games that were better?"

Again with the shaking, "Sega has better graphics than Nintendo."

Me, "What did you think of Secret of Mana's graphics? What do you think of the Super NES's 16-bit sound quality."

Her, "I don't play Nintendo. I only play Sega."

She also had a friend with her who was basically acting as her yesman.

Later that same night, I got into a conversation about SNES games with someone else, and she was just standing there staring at me with a disgusted look along with her friend. When she noticed I saw her, she turned her head away in an exaggerated fashion and they walked out of the room.

That right there is every SlayerX on the internet. They are kids who still have a lot of learning and maturing to do, but they are so used to hearing everyone around them say how smart they are that they're completely convinced that everything that comes out of their mouths is the absolute truth.

I had a good foil growing up. I grew up with BJ and our rivalry, admittedly, went way too far when we took it to the internet, but I think that helped in keeping me level-headed, humble, prepared, grounded in reality, and most importantly, honest with myself, which you need to be in order to be honest with others. I'm not saying he used to call me "stupid" or anything like that, but we had our disagreements and that taught me that it's okay to have different opinions than your friends and family, but you better make sure that those opinions are honest and that you can back them up solidly.

What that little girl was really saying is that her parents got her a Sega system instead of a Nintendo system, and since it's the one she owns, that makes it superior to the one she doesn't own. That's "Fox and the Grapes", and it's not being honest with yourself. And because she wasn't being honest with herself, she couldn't be honest with me and just say, "I don't know anything about Nintendo because I've never played an NES or SNES."
