A long time ago, when I was still running the Cameos Database, I had this situation where a regular contributor was sending me things by clicking on the email link on my site, which of course, brings up Outlook Express (or whatever email system his computer uses). The thing is... he'd just send it from that window, not realizing that it was going through with his mother's name, because the email was set up for her. When I put his submissions on the site, he emailed me again from a Yahoo address to report that I had his mother's name instead of his and asked that I correct the error. Occasionally, he'd still forget and send me stuff under his mother's name, but I was aware of it so I knew to put the right name on the site. I'll bet Mr. Rain is a little kid just like that person who did the same exact thing - and Lizeth Marry is actually his mother's name. The reason he's not fessing up about it now is because he doesn't want her to find out. If my theory is correct, then it's going to be great if she ever Googles her own name.

I don't want to do that even if I did. It's like he wanted to have one of those oh-so-cLeVaR "Portal of Evil"-style names, but since he has not a working brain cell in his skull, the best he could come up with was to say he invented something that's not made by human hands. Ho ho ho! How rich! There was an episode of Garfield & Friends where two scientists are trying to determine what words are inherently funny and which aren't. One says a word, the other says "Funny" or "not funny" and they throw it in one basket if it's funny and the other if it isn't. I can't seem to find the exact quote online, but Crawl was telling me how Jerry Seinfeld said that the more specific things are, the funnier they are. One example we've mentioned before is that amateur comedian who had a joke about meeting a blind parachuter. The punchline was something like, "I've never heard a dog scream before". The joke never worked, but Seinfeld told him to change "dog" to "German Shepherd", and then suddenly the joke got laughs. An example I can think of from the internet was that animated Lord of the Rings parody gif where they want to go to Arby's and Elrond yells, "The world is at stake and you want a Beef and Chedda'?!" It wouldn't have been as funny if he said something less specific like "Roast Beef Sandwich". So yeah, the problem is that "rain" is too generic and the word itself is not inherently funny. I'm not sure what word could come after "I invented..." that would actually make it seem clever or funny, but "rain" certainly isn't it. Maybe "I invented Djibouti". However, unlike before, I might let it go at that rather than being so aggressive about it. And I try to steer conversation in constructive ways. Like, if someone seems like they're arguing with me just to argue, I'll try to get the conversation back on the issues rather than arguing back for the sake of arguing. But is any of that noticeable to a third party? Who knows.

Secret of Mana was right - time flows like a river and history repeats. Honey Peach sounds like it could be the fucking worst game of all time. The Rock-Paper-Scissors battles were the worst part of the Alex Kidd games, so of course, someone makes an entire game of nothing but that. I'll bet the reason it's called "Honey Peach" is because the way a peach is drawn in some japanese art, it resembles (and is therefore a metaphor of) testicles or a vulva. ----- There is no spoon!

Then a month later, they've all disappeared. I think there's another issue here. I think our community has evolved past the point of being a "game board". Almost all of us have gaming knowledge. But ultimately, it's a community of people and friends. Some people might lose interest when they see we don't talk about NES issues each and every day. On the other hand, I think our board has more freedom for me because I can post about anything I want to that has anything to do with me. It might be a weird thing for a lot of people. One of the most common cliches of the internet is, "You can be an asshole on the internet, because everyone is anonymous." But at our boards, we're not blank foils for videogame arguments. We're full human beings, and you can see other aspects of our lives beyond that we play videogames. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

In that time, I saw very little conversation that was actually focused on anything NES-related aside from just what games people had acquired and pictures of their collections. (They didn't even know what Kid Niki was there.) Before that, I was on NESplayer. I probably don't have to go any farther than that if you've seen The Memoirs of a Forum Jackass on the site. So, yeah. Figure out the rest of what I'm thinking on your own.

I've heard of something called "grabbing the peach" where someone tries to grab another person by the crotch. That's part of why it annoys me. On the other hand, I think our board has more freedom for me because I can post about anything I want to that has anything to do with me. That's the way I've always felt message boards should be. Yeah, we frown on things like spam, flamebait, and blatant stupidity, but I've otherwise rarely (if ever) seen a topic started at Port Saiid that people complained about. Get out of my cheese, get into my corn!

Posts: 75 (07/10/09 08:07:53) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Strangely enough, that does seem to be most people's logic for voting for McCain Sarah Palin that I've personally dealt with. Ever since Sarah Palin announced her resignation, I've seen several articles (more like random blog entries) in the news defending her from critics, but the defenses are all about as vague as you can possibly imagine and don't actually counter any specific criticism. It's no different than people saying Gunstar Heroes or Mortal Kombat 2 are great games without giving any reasons. One even had the fucking gall to say that her critics are just jealous because she's successful while they collect unemployment paid for by taxpayers. Uh, aside from everything else wrong with that statement, Sarah Palin's salary is also paid for by taxpayers. So yes, it really does seem like people like Sarah Palin just for the sake of liking her, and that somehow should make her immune to any and all criticism, no matter how valid. However, I get the feeling there's something below the surface - as though the reason they like her is because they share some of her values, yet are too afraid or ashamed to admit to that.
