That reminds me of how BJ kept getting all those emails from people angry at him for not liking Lunar even though he never played it and never said anything about it. --Pepto-Dash!!

In the past, I might have just voiced my own opinion, but today, there's Mother Bear Sydnrome and MiyamotoLover Mentality everywhere, so... (And whether or not games that aren't K7 or SotC can be "art" is not something any true gamer in the year 2008 should even need to question.)

Files that are limited by DRM must have the DRM protection built into them. There's almost no way DRM protection could prevent you from playing an MP3 you made yourself. But if you bought digital music from an online store, it might be DRM protected. For instance, we have a Terminator 2 DVD with DRM protection. It in no way prevents us from playing any other DVD we own. But if we want to watch that particular one, we have to log on to some DRM authorization site to get a 2 day permission certificate. It is a huge inconvience, and if I had a chance to get the DVD without that, I would. Given a chance to get any media with or without DRM, I would choose without DRM. So, you could say DRM lost for movies, because most movies aren't like that. I still buy CDs rather than MP3s from Itunes or Amazon or whatever, so I'm not up to date on the situation there, but maybe that cartoon is saying (wikipedia confirms it) that if you get sound files from them, they won't have DRM protection. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I've been told in both email and on a forum that I should switch the Video Game Music Downloads to OGG format because mp3 is outdated and being phased out. Two things about that. #1. Every time I've tried getting Winamp to play an OGG file, it just sits there and stares at me like I have two heads. And I've even installed plugins that are supposed to play OGG files, so I don't know what gives. #2. I have yet to hear of an "OGG Player". These people don't realize I'm not tailoring that section to hypernerds. Everyday people want to be able to put this music on their ipods and mp3 players. www.flyingomelette.com

Still, I think that's kinda like saying "Get rid of your SNES and get an XBOX 360 because it's newer." Or worse, "Get rid of your old TV and get an HD TV!" Stupid XBox. I live on the internet.

You can say her music is shit, call her a whore, and say that people who like her music have no taste. No big deal. BUT if you say that someone has no taste because they think Pokemon, Digimon, Hamtaro, etc. are the best anime shows out there, well then... all hell breaks loose. Going way, way back to this, I found this conversation while going through old posts a few days ago and I don't really remember any of the people who were involved in it that don't actually come around anymore (although I noticed at least one of them was one of the names that SlayerX fired off in those emails he sent us), but the person who said he liked Pokemon/Hamtaro etc. didn't even say they were the best anime shows out there. He just said those were the types he preferred and gave his reasons why, and they leaped all over him for it. I'm neither a fan of cartoony anime like Pokemon/Hamtaro nor more serious anime, but I can certainly understand why someone might like one kind and not the other. I'll bet that's what contributed to SlayerX getting pissed over the Transformers topics. Since he was "friends" with (or maybe just idolized) those people, he probably saw Transformers as some kiddie cartoon like Pokemon that wasn't "mature" like Dragon Ball Z or "high art" like Sailor Moon, and he felt that gave him the right to stomp all over anyone who mentioned it. There was ONE person, and only a come-and-go poster, who cared about Hamtaro. So, you cannot be remotely reasonable and say that "all hell breaks loose". That person was probably extremely touchy about having any of their favorite things criticized or mocked. So, it was projecting. Think about how negatively, beyond all reason, they responded to Mercury Crusader, an infrequent poster who occasionally gave some sacred cows some very gentle ribbing. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Because I was still in that mindset that you only use banning as a very last resort, when they started trying to enforce the Game Pond's rules on us, one idea we came up with was to completely ignore them. (And this made sense on another level because they made it quite clear several times that they didn't like being ignored.) Mercury Crusader, however, was not in on that plan and he kept responding to them. So, their logic was probably something like, "Hey! We're posting flamebait specifically aimed at FO and DH and they aren't responding, but this Merc guy is. Ah-HA! HE must be THEM!" And thanks, Sheik, you win Post of the Day. www.flyingomelette.com

It doesn't matter if screen technology allows that high of a resolution; normally, using that high a resolution makes text unreadable. My laptop has a huge resolution and I can't just set it lower. Unlike our home monitor, if I set the laptop display at a low resolution, it looks chunky and generally like crap. I compensate by setting a minimum font size in Firefox. If I didn't, again, just about every website would be unreadable. Another thing that reminds me of -- even stronger -- was when people were saying things about how every webpage should only use PNGs or something stupid. Yeah, PNGs have their advantages (they don't show artifacting with areas with a sharp change in colors like JPEGs do, and they can handle more colors than GIFs). But saying EVERY image should be a PNG is retarded. Just about every webbrowser can handle JPEGs and GIFs, so what's the harm in using them? And, yeah, there are a lot of pieces of hardware that can play MP3s but not OOGs. (In fact, we have one) Maybe the people who want the OOGs don't have such hardware. But like in the other examples, there are other people in the world than them.
