Well, he started hating Raven because he didn't like music. In fact, when I said over IM that I also didn't, his next message was, "I'm banning you from my board."The fuck? Who doesn't like music? There was a part in Shakespeare's Henry IV where the bad guy says he doesn't like music (and that it's for women or something) and I thought that was ridiculously unrealistic to make a character villainous like that. You might as well have him say he doesn't like happiness. |

I didn't specifically remember that topic, but I do remember Gaimeguy saying that before. I also think Bulma said it at one time, too.

I can see someone not liking pop music, or not listening to the radio, or not like going to concerts... whatever. But to not like music at all? Unless you
were deaf from birth, that's one of the things that makes us human. It's like not liking colors. What the hell?
The thing that just totally blows my mind about this is that wherever I go, people act like my opinions are symptomatic of a mental incapacity. But I think they're pretty normal. Okay, I guess everyone might think that about themself, but a lot of my standards seem like they could be universal, I can reason through my opinions, and I don't have really specific needs (like a videogame where I can get really high and check my position through a coordinate, or see artwork of human and animal crossbreds). The weirdest thing about me, I guess, is that I don't like some specific things that are popular (like The Incredibles), but that's a far cry from dismissing an entire branch of art ... probably the most primitive branch. Even animals enjoy music. And yet not only do you see a person who doesn't like music, you can find at least three of them going to the same board. And here I am, the weird one. |

There was a review of lightguns on Working Design's page that said if you're still using RF in 1997 (when the article was written) you have problems - I still am using it 3 years later). Here I am, still using it 8 years after that. "Without a foothold in the past, we cannot walk towards the future." -Vagrant Story |

That Termite/Gaimeguy/Raven topic is fucking funny, but it's also an example of why things were so frustrating back then. DH and I took some flak when we
first started this site for picking on TermiteJr. Okay, well, I can make a conscious effort to not pick on TermiteJr, and I'm sure I could probably
convince some of my close friends to stop picking on him, too. But can you really stop people like Raven and Gaimeguy from doing it? And of course their logic
is that if one person is still picking on TermiteJr, we're all picking on him.

If that "Crossing Genres" topic was still around today, I would reply to this paragraph...
Something that impresses me about a game, is the ability to meld genres together, so that it is part of the story, and it is believable....with this: My question is, WHY would Goldeneye need a driving scene between levels? Wasn't it pretty much generally accepted to be a great game as it was? And didn't the N64 already have about a bazillion driving games? In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Rare did think about having things like that from the movie in the game, but obviously they had to decide what was best for the game and what wasn't and excised what wasn't (like taking the boat to the island in the first level).

Why would you make Termite an admin at your board? Didn't he admit that he was only like 8 years old at the time? Who gives an 8-year-old total power over
their forums?

Some of the people who were given admin at the Game Pond weren't much older than that. I think I was 15 at the time, but I'd have to do a little math... Yup, if I was given admin in 2000, I would've been 15. That's 7 years older than Termite (if he really was 8), but I know some GP admins were younger than me. |

Okay, despite everything I said, it still would be weirdly hilarious for someone to say, "I don't like music" and consequently have someone
instantly ban them for that.

15 might or might not be too young to handle the responsibility of a huge board like the Game Pond or the BMA, but there's still a big difference between 15 and 8. Also, I think Kiera at least had some regulations for her admins to follow. Sounds like Bug was just allowing Termite to do whatever he wanted. My sister was talking about how someone was like a real life Tobias Funke.
I guess it's possible for people to not like music if they're literally tone deaf (which is pretty rare, as opposed to just not being able to sing in tune or having a developed sense of pitch). Supposedly, according to Wikipedia, Che Guevara and Teddy Roosevelt were tone deaf. And since it's rare, it seems strange to me that three tone deaf people would be going to the same board.
See how your opinion ruined Christmas for everyone!

Why is it that someone could pick on Termite at Deathspork's board, and yet no one will ever say, "Deathspork's board sucks because people there pick on Termite", but if someone picked on him here, they'll say, "DH's board sucks because people there pick on Termiite". What's the difference I'm missing?

There are all kinds of politics involved in that, mostly relating to who exactly said what to whom and at whose board.
A lot of people liked Deathspork. He was popular. But hardly anyone took characters like Raven seriously. So when Raven said that Termite Jr sucked, the people who like Termite might not blame the whole board because they might also like DS. Although DH was popular with some people, she was unpopular with others. Some of those might be the same people who like Termite. So if Raven says Termite sucks at DH's board, those people might just blame the whole board because they don't like or care about DH either, and if they're neutral, they might not mind blaming it on the entire board unless DH publicly denounces Raven for saying Termite sucks. In today's day and age, I'm more likely to hold an entire board responsible than I was in the past, mainly because of "Mother Bear" syndrome. Say, for example, I was to find a forum where someone is bashing Tyler (just speaking hypothetically, I've not actually seen this anywhere). I might register to say a few words in Tyler's defense, but what is most likely to happen is that the rest of the board will swarm to the basher's defense, no matter if he's right or wrong, just because he's "one of their own". That's what I felt gave me the right to make fun of that N64 forum. I could've just kept it between me and the idiot who criticized my site, but when I posted a response there, I immediately got a reply from someone else telling me I shouldn't have registered just to post that. Hinges of the door were off after that. |

What's the difference I'm missing? That's what I mean when I say it was so frustrating. And if you point out hypocrisy like that, you'll never get a straight answer. I think FO is right. People generally don't care about intelligent conversations on message boards so when they get mad about something, it doesn't matter how irrational it is. Well, the thing is, some of the people who came after us for the Termite crap were the same exact people who told us years ago that they thought DBDH Arena was funny. It's not like they read it again and decided that it wasn't as funny as they thought before. |
