The reason that happens is because people want to look good to as many people as they possibly can. If the majority of people believe that the
Playstation2's graphics are always superior to the NES's graphics then it's easier to play to that attitude and attempt to convert the handful that
would go against it than to be the one to go against it yourself.

It really doesn't make any sense to me, though, why self-proclaimed oldschool gamers act so apologetic to mainstream gamers, when mainstream gamers will
rarely accept an oldschool view in return.

People from the Gamepond actually said things like, "It sure is a profound realization that no one at this board, a board that has no Britney Spears fans, defends her when she's insulted." They also had a strong tendency to say things for the sake of being contrary and I remember a specific case in which it really annoyed me. Fenrir and I were talking about Snake Rattle n Roll on the Paradise Resort. So this person from the Game Pond played the first level of the game for a few minutes and then started going on and on with, "I have no idea why everyone here loves this game so much. Crazy characters and colorful graphics do not make a game good!", and he would post that any time the subject came up. It seemed like an attempt to exert "Like only what I like" authority. It's as though he couldn't stand seeing two people discuss something that he didn't have intimate knowledge of, so he had to figure some way to "prove them wrong" and look all the wiser for it. Part of the problem was that I wasn't very good at explaining what makes games good back then (hence, my SMB3 first review draft that talked mostly about the minigames), and I was less confrontational then, too, so I just let him get away with it. Of course, we ran into that again with the infamous Aidyn Chronicles fiasco. I think that shit like that figures very highly into the reason many message board communities don't welcome opposing viewpoints with open arms. It's probably what we would call nowadays "intentional trolling", and it sometimes can be difficult to tell the difference. |

I guess I didn't really explain what I meant by that well enough, and I'm not even entirely sure I agree with it.
But it's kind of like how at the N64 board at the old N-Sider, there was so much intentional trolling that when people with legitimate arguments eventually showed up, they'd get flamed because everyone was in defense mode. I think the main solution, though, is to be intelligent with your arguments whether or not you're dealing with a troll or a normal person. |

I'm calling that "Once bitten, troll shy". It's when people claim they've been trolled before, so now they're sensitive and paranoid that anything could be a troll. I have no sympathy for it. Go back and you'll see those people were always accusing everyone of being a troll. |

Well, I don't have sympathy for almost any message board community anymore. Most of the times, the normal clientele and admin are worse than the trolls.

Well, I don't have sympathy for almost any message board community anymore. For a good example of why I don't, at POE, fat people and Chinese people don't deserve sympathy, but fucking car thieves do. I need to find something better to do in my spare time than read the comments there. Otherwise, I'm not sure why I left that place to begin with. |

Another place that was a common excuse on N-Sider was that one board where every new person was accused of being ESS just because ESS has a million and one
usernames. It didn't matter if the person was trying to cause trouble or not. (And I'm probably one to talk since I still think ESS was just GH64, but
at least I have solid reasons to think that.)

I would almost think SlayerX is GH64, except that GH64 hated the NES. Everything else is so similar, though...

I really don't think all these people are Slayer. I'm not even sure who is supposed to be Slayer anymore.
FO said that maybe the original Slayer is also SlayerX. The original Slayer being the guy with the really bad grammar. I doubted that at first, because he seemed harmless, but FO said that he might have only seemed harmless because he lacked the English skills necessary to convey what a jerk he was. Okay, well, I guess my view of human nature is dim enough that that's possible. But FO also said that Viper Diamond was SlayerX, and I'm pretty sure that those two people could not be the same person. I'm pretty sure Viper Diamond was around before any Slayer, and I don't remember him ever having that kind of problem with his English.

Slayer has been around a pretty long time and at least as long as the Viper Diamond name first showed up. In fact, both showed up at the same time and both
were always saying they were Nine Inch Nails fans.
And again, Slayer only has problems with grammar depending on how pissed off he is (and what big words he's trying to use). GH64 was the same exact way, hence my post above. Not only that, but I checked the Viper Diamond IP against three of Slayer's names and it wasn't an exact match, but they were all somewhere in this obscure area of either Florida or Kansas, I can't remember which. So, regarding that last one, I supposed it's possible it could be that he's getting friends of his to help him out, but even if that's the case why bother making the distinction? They're all acting upon his accord anyway.

I never would have known deusmortui and luxverum were the same user except that I spotted the URLs in his geocities sites. They didn't seem that much
alike, but they both showed up at the same time. The longer you've been around, the easier it is for you to spot these things, and I think sometimes
you're trying too hard to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Viper Diamond was RWAD.
Yoshi's Story review by VD. Same URL a couple of years before, by RWAD. Actually, if you search RWAD64 at the gamepond, he comes out and says he changed names. Even if that's true, how is that evidence that he's not SlayerX?? As has been pointed out over and over again,
RWAD64 has the same poor grammar and obsession with NES/Japanese stuff that Slayer had. So we can just add "RWAD64" to his list of million-and-one
names. And wasn't that the name he put as the subject line on all the emails he sent to DHN recently? (I guess now we know why he did that. I thought it
was just that he was picking random insane/stupid Game Pond GD names to throw in our faces.)
Okay, so two COMPLETELY different people with grudges against me, preaching the gospel of how great the Game Pond is, quoting Nine Inch Nails, speaking in poor grammar normally, and near-perfect grammar when he's really pissed off, showed up at the EXACT SAME TIME, have ip addresses in the EXACT SAME AREA, and flood my email and guestbook with the EXACT SAME INSULTS. And it's just pure coincidence. Edit - Also, now that I reach into the recesses of my brain and think about it deeply, I remember seeing the name "RWAD64" or some variation of it, posting on NES boards back in the day. I didn't know him from adam then, though, and when I saw the name was at the Game Pond, I probably just assumed he found us because of Deathspork's site. I never really paid any attention to him at any place, though.

While they are similar in some ways, I don't think SlayerX is GH64 for another reason: GH64 hated the Game Pond and everyone involved in it, so I don't
think he'd begin his attack on the community by claiming that he knew Kiera really well and sticking up for people he thinks were
"well-respected" (ha ha!)
On the other hand, if SlayerX is NOT Viper Diamond, then I have to confess that *I* don't know who SlayerX is. As far as I know, this whole drama started when the name "Viper Diamond" showed up on the Game Pond out of nowhere, long after we'd shut it down and converted it to a semi-private forum. He claimed that he had been there since the beginning, that he knew Kiera, and even tried to say he knew Kiera longer than Cat9 did (ha ha!), and he was bitching about various things like how we changed the name to something like "BJ's Little Corner of Cyberspace" and how certain "well-respected" (read: "Lame") people had left and he demanded we fix everything or he'd bomb the board. BJ banned him and claims he also was the one responsible for sending him several of those vague emails demanding apologies. After he was banned, he flooded the board under the name "I am a Black Labrador", and I'm almost positive he was the one responsible for all the floodings on this board under various "Ghaleon" names. Then, several months later, he showed up on ShnooWorld under the name "Arfgard" in this topic, admitted to everything and half-heartedly apologized for it. (He's since edited out all of his posts.) The reason I say "half-heartedly" is because he said he was sorry, but he kept making up really lame excuses for it, such as (once again) saying he did it because he knew Kiera and thought that's what she would have wanted and saying things that would indicate that we still deserved what he did, (example: Something like, "I'm sorry I aggressively flamed James, but he was being disrespectful to me and Kiera"). And it was RandX (Oxnard Hamster?) I believe, in a topic on Port Saiid that I can't find right now, who determined that Arfgard was this "Slayer" from the same board he originally came from. So, yeah, I don't know anything about RWAD64 (don't remember that name at all, except that yes, it was the subject line of several of the emails that were sent to us), but this person who keeps attacking the board year after year sounds exactly like the person who had the name "Viper Diamond" at the Game Pond. The only way I could possibly see them being two different people is that if Arfgard decided to steal his identity, but that would be the single most bizarre lamer tactic I've ever heard of. |

Aye, yai...
#1. More than anything else, I think the fact that almost every one of the suspected names has shown up between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a pretty big indication that they're all the same person. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce that he's probably visiting family around that time, which means that's either the only time he has internet access, or he won't pull his stunts from his normal living quarters because he doesn't want to get in trouble with his own ISP (or parents). #2. I really don't care if Slayer #1 and Slayer #2 are the same person or not. Slayer #2 very obviously wants us to think he's Slayer #1, even if he isn't, and since Slayer #1 supposedly left under the pretense that FO and I are terrible people responsible for all of his life problems, then fuck both of them. #3. As someone with deeper, more intimate knowledge of the Game Pond than any living being really should have, I can say with utmost sincerity that RWAD64 is NOT someone you want to claim to be. |
